How is this different from using a legal recruitment agency?
A recruitment agency introduces you to a candidate, charges a placement fee when you hire them, and the relationship largely ends there. Singularity charges no recruitment fee at all, and does not step away once the lawyer starts: the lawyer contracts with us, and we handle the contracting, the payments and the ongoing administration for as long as the arrangement runs.
The practical difference is who carries the risk. A recruiter is paid upfront and offers a sliding rebate if the hire leaves early. We are paid monthly, only while the arrangement is working, and we replace the lawyer whenever you ask, whatever the reason.
What is the same
You interview a shortlist and choose the person yourself. You direct their work, set their priorities and manage them the way you would any other colleague. In that respect this is an ordinary hire and should feel like one.
What is different
- No placement fee. A conventional legal recruiter typically charges a percentage of first-year salary, payable whether or not the hire lasts. Our search, vetting and shortlist cost you nothing.
- No lock-in. There is no fixed term to sit out, and notice is short.
- Replacement whenever you ask, with no qualifying period, no fault to establish and no fee for the new search.
- Your first hire through us carries thirty days at our risk: if it is not a success you pay nothing for the month, and we still pay the lawyer ourselves.
- The candidates are vetted by lawyers on our own team rather than by recruiters, and our vetting notes come with the CVs.
When a recruiter is the better choice
If you want someone qualified in England and Wales who can carry out reserved legal activities and appear on the record, hire through a UK recruiter. That is not what we do. Our lawyers are South African attorneys who work under your supervision, and your solicitors sign off anything regulated. If the seat genuinely requires an England and Wales qualification, we will tell you so on the call rather than sell you something that does not fit.
